Fake Drugs And TB, Health Care's Silent Tragedy

Like the common flu, TB has many different strains. Treating some of these strains can be very costly, but fortunately most strains can be treated with the most widely available drugs, and which happen to cost the least. A patient in Africa, where the majority of TB cases occur, can be cured for around fifty or sixty dollars. TB cases that develop into resistant strains, and require long-term hospitalization, can cost fifteen or twenty thousand dollars, and usually end in death.

Here in the states we are faced with, "Super Bugs," viruses that are immune to widely available antibiotics. The super bugs have developed over the years primarily because patients did not follow doctors orders and complete the full treatment prescribed. They started feeling better and quit taking their medication. This allowed the remaining bug to become resistant to the medication, growing stronger as time went on, and ultimately passed onto others in a variety of ways.

The main difference though between the, "Super Bugs," in the states and TB in Africa is the drugs used in treatment themselves. In this country one can feel confident in the fact that they are ingesting quality medication, manufactured under the watchful eye of the FDA. In Africa there are no such guarantees, and fake or sub-standard medications coming from China and Africa itself, (and India to a much lesser extent,) are a common occurrence. Roughly thirty percent of the medications tested were found to be sub-standard, not having enough medication in each pill, or outright fakes. So even when the African patient follows doctor's orders to the letter there is a very good chance they may still die from the disease.

How big of a problem is this? Twenty-five percent of the world's population has TB, the vast majority of cases in Africa. TB can lay low for years and years until the carrier becomes infected with another disease such as HIV, then all bets are off. Without treatment the TB patient stands a 50-50 chance of dying, just under two million doing exactly that in 09'. This is a huge health care problem, and one if not addressed soon will likely affect other nations in the not too distant future. Never mind Obamacare as a threat to the existence of health insurance companies in the states, and first and foremost considering the loss of human life if a TB epidemic did occur here, imagine what such an epidemic would do to health insurance companies in the United States. No business, no matter their size or amount of financial reserves they may have, could withstand such a thing.

Treating TB requires quite a bit of effort on the patients part, but until something else better comes along we must insure that these patients are receiving quality medication, and thoroughly educated on the prescribed method of treatment. For fifty bucks a TB patient can save their life, but they must also ingest up to fifteen pills a day for half a year. The least we can do is remove the sub-standard and fake medications from Africa's marketplace.

Methods Of Diagnosing And Treating The TB Infection

Tuberculosis is an infection caused by the Koch bacillus, it primarily affects the lungs and it is contagious, healthy persons receiving the infection if living or working in the same place with the infected person. By coughing, the infected person spreads the germs into the air, and others inhale them.

One way to diagnose TB is by performing a skin test called the intra-dermal reaction of tuberculin. The person that is suspected to be or to have been infected with TB is considered to have developed a hypersensitivity to the TB germ.

The test consists in injecting into the skin a purified protein derived from the TB germ. After more then 48 hours the skin area will present a bump. If the bump is large, the test is considered to be positive, meaning that the TB infection has occurred.

Even if the test is negative, it should be repeated after a while, because the test is not a 100 percent accurate.

Another method of diagnosing TB is performing a thoracic X-Ray which shows where in the lungs is the infection localized and how greatly it is expanded.

If the suspected person coughs, doctors take the sputum and with the help of the microscope they search for the TB germs in the sputum. This is quite an accurate method of diagnosing TB.

After diagnosing TB, doctors have to test what drugs will be most efficient against the particular strain of the TB bacteria, using genetic engineering techniques like polymerase chain reaction (PCR).

To prevent the spread of TB in other people, health authorities have ordered that every child to get a shot of the bacillus Calmette Guerin (BCG) vaccine. This is a vaccine prepared of a weakened Tb germ, and it is considered to be the most effective vaccine in preventing childhood cases of TB.

Other general preventing methods of spreading the TB is hospitalizing the infected person, and practically isolating it from those who are healthy. Treatment must be followed at least 6 months constantly because interrupting the treatment could lead to spreading the disease in other organs, like: kidneys, intestinal tract, and lymph nodes, and even leading to the death of the infected person.

In treating TB, doctors use a combination of antibiotics because using only one drug could lead to the bacterial resistance to this drug. The drugs used nowadays are: isoniazid, rifampin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol, in different combinations.

Generally if the treatment is followed all the way, a person can heal without problems, and reintegrate within the society in about 6 to 9 months.

Understanding Tuberculosis and the Treatments Involved

Tuberculosis (TB) is a transmittable disease. It is caused by a bacteria known as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It was first identified in 1882 by a German physician named Robert Koch. Koch eventually received a Nobel prize for the discovery. Tuberculosis primarily affects the lungs. However, the infection can spread to other organs.

TB generally spreads from person to person through the air. When a person is sick with TB and coughs, laughs, sings, sneezes, or even talk he can infect other people. Also, direct hand or mouth contact with infected saliva can spread the bacteria. That is why people suffering from TB are often isolated for the duration of their treatment to avoid contamination. TB most easily spreads in closed spaces over a long period. The TB bacteria become potent and easily make a person sick if that person exercises poor diet and an unhealthy stressed lifestyle.

Years ago, pulmonary tuberculosis patients often would pass away without effective treatment. Today, TB is one of the more easier disease to cure with antibiotics. However, one needs to understand that there is also another group of organisms known as atypical tuberculosis.

These are other types of bacteria under the Mycobacterium family. Oftentimes, these organisms do not cause disease. They would simply live together with other bacteria in the body without really causing damage. But other times, when these bacteria do cause an infection, it is similar to typical tuberculosis but very difficult to cure.

Drug therapy for these organisms must be conducted for longer periods, about one to two years and would require multiple medications. This atypical tuberculosis may be contracted through drinking unpasteurized milk.

Pulmonary tuberculosis is easily spread among people with a weakened immune system since the body is no longer capable of containing the bacteria, keeping it dormant. One preventive treatment for TB is chemoprophylaxis. It is a drug treatment performed before the disease sets in and is commonly used in children who lives with someone who has active tuberculosis.

Multiple drug medications along with proper diagnosis and health care advices are very effective in controlling the disease when followed conscientiously. The most common conventional drugs used in the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis include Rifampin, Isoniazid, Pyrzinamide, Streptomycin, Capreomyzin, and Ethambutol. Of course, these medications should be taken upon professional medical advice. These drugs potentially dangerous.

Aside from conventional medications, there are also natural remedies used in treating pulmonary tuberculosis. One such remedy is the proteolytic enzyme known as serrapeptase, which is derived from the micro organism Serratia E15 and is naturally present in the intestines of silkworms. This particular enzyme is able to breakdown scar tissues, cysts, blood clots, inflammation, mucus, and arterial plaque of all sorts.

Other natural remedies used in the treatment of TB include digestive enzyme supplements, propolis, black seed oil, olive leaf extract, and colloidal silver.

Over 20 years of Research has gone into the making of these life-enhancing, pain relieving enzyme supplements. We have potentially created the most powerful Systemic Enzyme, Digestive Enzyme and Heart Enzyme supplements on the market. Learn More Now Go To http://www.TakeBackYourHealth.com

Pee on Paper to Treat TB - Here's How

Effective treatment of tuberculosis entails adhering to lengthy TB drugs regimen. To ensure that people follow through the duration of treatment scientists have found a clever way in which simply peeing on paper can lead you to comply with treatment.

Tuberculosis or TB is an airborne infectious disease that's curable. However it requires strict compliance with TB drugs for months. And many people, especially in poor countries drop out in the middle because the drugs can trigger nausea and other side effects. This in turn is leads to a relapse with drug resistant strains of bacteria, making treatment difficult. The consequences are evident from TB statistics. According to the WHO, TB afflicts millions worldwide - of the 9.2 million cases newly diagnosed in 2006, 1.7 million people succumbed to the disease.

The Pee based approach to TB treatment

Staff from the Innovations in International Health (IIH) project at MIT, recently devised a program which uses paper-based diagnostics called "XoutTB" with text-messaging technology and service to improve tuberculosis (TB) treatment compliance in poor countries.

At the heart of the program lies a rewards schedule, whereby patients complying with to the TB drug regimens consistently for 30 days are rewarded with cell-phone minutes, encouraging them further.

To track compliance, the participants are required to pee on a paper-based diagnostic equipment, which is dispensed once each day. The device is able to detect the metabolites of the TB drug in urine - accurately assessing whether the drugs were consumed or not. Also the reaction between the drug molecules in urine and the chemicals embedded in the paper devices uncover a code that the participants need to text-message to a central database. A consistent record of compliance for 30 days is rewarded with free minuets.

It's simple and hopefully will turn out to be quite effective, as the trials are still on. While the real work is still accomplished by the good old TB drugs, the pee based diagnostics are central to making that happen. Now, that's what I'd call real waste management!

Signs, Symptoms And Treatment For Pulmonary Tuberculosis

Usually, TB is caused by bacteria that spreads to the lungs and infects that area. It can easily be spread from person to person as it is carried in air droplets and when a person sneezes or coughs, the droplets fly out of the mouth and can infect another person. This is the primary version of TB. Most of the time, people will recover from this kind of TB, particularly in the US.

When one is elderly or an infant, or someone with a very weak immune system, such as someone who has AIDS or is on chemotherapy, has diabetes, has a much higher chance of contracting it. And some people have it but it stays dormant for years and does not show up till years later. If you are in contact with people who have it or if you have a poor and unhealthy diet, then you have a higher chance of getting it. Also if you live in a very crowded area, you might also be affected with the disease. And in the entire population at large, if there is a height of HIV infections and an increase of impoverished peoples, then TB will be more likely, as well.

Some symptoms of the disease are the coughing, coughing up of blood, as well as some excess night sweats. Fatigue and lethargy will accompany a fever and you might lose lots of weight, too, if you have the disease. You will also find that it is very hard to breathe and your chest will hurt and you will wheeze and gasp for air, too. There are many different ways to diagnose the disease, such as seeing if there are enlarged lymph nodes in the neck, fluid in the lung, and crackling kind of breathing. The doctor may perform a biopsy of affected areas or even a chest CT scan or x-ray to see what is going on in your lungs. You can also have a skin test, that can determine if you have it as well. When the results come in, the doctor can gauge what part of the disease you are currently in and various treatment options are available such as rifampin and isoniazid, two drugs that are administered to help with fighting and vanquishing the TB bacteria. Both pyrazinamide and ethambutol are also drugs that are being given fight it, as they have been tested in labs as being great agents in fighting it.

However, it is very important to take all the pills given and to make sure that no matter how many are required, none are skipped or forgotten. When people forget to take some, it begins harder to fight the bacteria and then the disease remains in the body and then become resistant and then no longer can be eliminated from the body. Sometimes a health care provider or home nurse is needed to make sure that the patient takes all the medicine given, for it is essential that the medication is not forsaken and that it is consumed on a regular and diligent basis.

Symptoms and Treatment of Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis can affect anyone and anywhere. It is estimated that approximately 1/3 of the world's population has been infected by mycobacterium tuberculosis. Currently, tuberculosis as the third largest cause of death after cardiovascular disease and respiratory disease. Tuberculosis is a disease of the biggest causes of death in the group of infectious diseases. Until now, tuberculosis remains a global health problem and foremost.

How Tuberculosis Infection?

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease cause by mycobacterium tuberculosis germ. Tuberculosis (TB) is transmitted through the air (through the spark sputum tuberculosis patients). When people with TB getting cough, sneeze, talk or spit, they sprinkled the tuberculosis bacteria into the air. A person can be exposed by inhaling the bacteria only a small number of tuberculosis germs. In children the source of infection is generally derived from adult patients with TB. Patients with tuberculosis with status of positive acid-fast bacilli can infect at least 10 to 15 people every year.

These bacteria when frequently enter and accumulate in the lungs will develop well into a lot and can be spread through blood vessels or lymph nodes. Therefore, infection of TB can infect virtually all body organs like the lungs, brain, kidney, gastrointestinal tract, bone, lymph nodes, and others. Organs are often infected with tuberculosis bacteria is the lungs.

Someone who is infected with TB germs do not necessarily become ill TB. Tuberculosis germs can become inactive (dormant) for many years to form a cell wall in the form of a thick layer of wax. When a person's immune system declines, likely contracted the illness tuberculosis becomes greater.

Does tuberculosis clinical symptoms?

The main symptoms of patients with tuberculosis are coughing up phlegm for 2 to 3 weeks or more. Cough followed by additional symptoms of phlegm mixed with blood, coughing up blood, shortness of breath, body weakness, decreased appetite, weight loss, malaise, night sweats without physical activity, fever more than 1 month. These symptoms can also be found in lung diseases other than tuberculosis, such as bronchitis, asthma, lung cancer and others.

What is Tuberculosis Test?

In children tuberculin test is most useful examination to show whether the child is infected with mycobacterium tuberculosis. But it is often done Monteux test. Monteux test injection site is generally on the upper half left forearm. That is injected into the skin and in wait for 48 ~ 72 hours ago in measuring the diameter of the swelling that occurs.

Treatment of tuberculosis

Treatment of tuberculosis is very old that is 6 till 9 months even more than 9 months. Patients with tuberculosis can be cured by taking drugs completely and regularly and to improve the immune system with good nutrition and regular exercise.

The Success of Chlamydia Treatment

Chlamydia is an infection which is caused by the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis; and it is the most common sexually transmitted disease. As many as one in four men with Chlamydia have no signs and symptoms. In men, Chlamydia might generate symptoms parallel to gonorrhea. Symptoms may comprise of discharge from the penis or rectum, burning sensation during urination, rectal discharge or pain, and testicular tenderness or pain. About 30% of women with Chlamydia present symptoms, which includes burning sensation during urination, rectal pain or discharge, painful sexual intercourse, vaginal discharge, symptoms of PID, salpingitis, and liver inflammation comparable to hepatitis.

Chlamydia infection is mainly the frequent sexually transmitted illness in the United States. Sexually active persons and those with several partners are at utmost risk. The diagnosis of Chlamydia infection entails sample of the urethral discharges in males or cervical discharges in females. If people engage in anal sexual contact, sample from the rectum might also be required. The sample is delivered for a monoclonal antibody test or fluorescent, cell culture, or DNA probe test. Several of these tests may also be executed on the urine sample.

The Chlamydia treatment includes proper antibiotic therapy including tetracyclines, erythromycin, or azithromycin. You can acquire Chlamydia with syphilis or gonorrhea, so if you have a sexually transmitted disease, you have to be screened for other STDs too. Every sexual contact must be tested for Chlamydia. Sexual partners should be cured to avoid passing the infection to other people. There is no considerable resistance subsequent to the infection and a person may turn out to be constantly infected. A follow-up assessment can be done in four weeks to verify if the infection has been treated.

There are also natural ways to alleviate the condition by doing some dietary modifications which may be helpful. Following a low-fat and high-fiber diet; and the diet must comprise an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables. These foods include high quantity of phytonutrients and important vitamins that aid in keeping the body strong and fuel the immune system to battle infections. Limit consumption of fat, sugar, highly-processed foods, alcohol, and caffeine, which lowers the immune function. Take multivitamin and mineral supplement every day, drink cranberry juice as it helps in preventing UTIs. Intake of acidophilus pills can avoid yeast infections while under antibiotics treatment. Eat fresh garlic or take garlic pills to aid in fighting infection.

The infection, if never treated, may advance to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), which can cause scars in the fallopian tubes resulting in sterility. Scarring of the tubes also amplify the probability of an ectopic pregnancy or tubal pregnancy. If a woman have Chlamydia while pregnant, it can cause untimely labor and delivery. Additionally, the infant may grow Chlamydia conjunctivitis and Chlamydial pneumonia in that case. Protected sexual practices and constant condom utilization are vital means to aid in reducing your odds of being infected. Screening test for Chlamydia is suggested every year for sexually vigorous women age 25 and younger; and women over age 25 who have new or numerous sex partners.

To put yourself at ease, go to STD clinics and seek consult with their health care professional. There you will be able to determine if you really have or do not have Chlamydia. This will also decrease the chances of you transferring the disease to other people.

Augmenting Your Qi Remove Your Pain

Some people can be crippled by pain on various parts of their body's, but this pain can be removed. It doesn't have to involve lots of drugs as these merely mask the pain. Through an acupuncture doctor it's possible to not only mask the pain but to remove it forever. Read on to find out more about the various acupuncture procedures and how to supplement these procedures for the very best results.

The Belief

Acupuncture is largely built off of a Chinese philosophical concept known as Qi. This is the life force that flows through all living things. By harnessing this energy it's possible to just eliminate pain in a completely natural and healthy way. An acupuncture doctor is the individual who can aid people in harnessing their Qi and removing their pain.

Common Problems Solved

Below are just some of the common problems that acupuncture procedures have helped cure in the past and in the present:

• Sleeping disorders such as insomnia.
• General pain in the back, elbow, and knees.
• Stress, anxiety, and severe depression.
• Asthma and other allergies like hay fever.

The Acupuncture Procedures

The main procedure that acupuncture is associated with is sticking needles into various parts of the body. Many people worry that this is dangerous, but it isn't. Those who are trained in acupuncture know exactly where to stick these needles without hurting anyone. More importantly, they are not stuck deep into the body; they remain close to the surface of the skin.

The treatment with these needles can occur as a single treatment and it does have a great impact. The difference between a good treatment and a great treatment, though, is what's done alongside it. In many cases, doctors will use electricity and heat to aid the flow of the Qi and to cause it to intensify. This will help to remove the pain and cure the patient.

It should be noted that patients can only see noticeable changes in their pain in time. It will require multiple sessions and it can't be something that's solved in only a few hours. Keep at it and the pain will eventually leave.

After Acupuncture

Acupuncture is designed to be a relaxing procedure, as well as a healing one. That's why it's important to adhere to the following guidelines after the treatment. Those guidelines are outlined below:

• Refrain from eating large meals as this will put unnecessary strain on the body.
• Avoid drinking alcohol for 24 hours for the same reasons. The liver is forced to exert itself to remove the harmful toxins emanating from alcohol.
• The body should remain warm and covered to aid the flow of the beneficial Qi around the body.
• Hydrate the body by drinking lots of water to keep the body relaxed.
• Stress and strain can reverse all of the beneficial relaxation attributes gained from an acupuncture doctor. That's why it's a good idea to avoid working out or undergoing strenuous activities.

Pulse Diagnosis In Traditional Chinese Medicine - An Art Form With Amazing Potential

If you have ever been for acupuncture or some form of traditional Chinese medicine, or are planning to go, as a patient, you may wonder what the practitioner is doing with your pulse! A TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) practitioner will use pulse diagnosis as an important tool in their practice.

Pulse diagnosis is part of the training for a TCM practitioner and acupuncturists who practice traditional acupuncture. However many students of TCM struggle with information which conflicts, from the classical texts about pulses.

Pulse reading is somewhat of a combination of an art form as well a scientific examination. If you go to a TCM practitioner and experience this for the first time, it can be quite amazing to have the practitioner tell by this diagnostic technique issues that you may already be aware are going on, or at least suspected.

Basic Positions And Principles

The six positions for pulse diagnosis can be divided into three on the right and three on the left which are read using the index, middle and ring fingers at the radial artery. There are twenty seven basic pulse states according to Li Shizhen (Shiz-hen). To make pulse reading a little less complicated you can consider that it is based upon four main principles which are:

• Floating

• Sinking

• Slow

• Rapid

Also if you were to sit in on a series of consultations with a TCM acupuncturist, after a while you may observe that many of the health problems can be reduced down into over simplifications such as dampness in the spleen or stagnated liver energy. This has been one of the issues with TCM and the difficulties in interpreting pulses with the aid of the conflicting classical texts.

Contemporary Chinese Pulse Diagnosis

Today contemporary Chinese pulse diagnosis is an evolving method which aims to give an insight into patients by offering a sophisticated, exquisite means of understanding the person holistically.

Based on the work of Leon Hammer, MD, and John HF Shen, OMD, it can provide insight on these various levels about patients:

• Previous diseases

• Constitution of the patient

• Early insults affecting normal physiology

• Traumas

• Emotional conditions

• Behavioural patterns

• Effects of patient's lifestyle

• Environmental stressors

Mastering It

Whatever way a practitioner undergoes training, this aspect of TCM takes a very long time to master properly and even if ten practitioners have undergone the same training to qualify, out of these ten, some will have the capability to listen deeply to their patients' pulses in a way that the others will attempt to truly master over many years, or even decades and some may say lifetimes!

This ability to listen is an energetic ability that comes naturally to some, although it can also be developed using a variety of practices to do so. If it does not come naturally it can be challenging to master, as part of this energetic sensitivity is the ability to trust one's energetic sensitivity! Therefore for those who wish to "learn" this, the catch 22 of overcoming the doubts can place, a sometimes insurmountable, obstacle in their way.

However an intimate grasp of the art of pulse diagnosis puts a practitioner in a very privileged position to help patients with a wide range of diseases and health issues.

Alternative Healing Therapies

The human body is a miraculous thing. It can survive serious injuries and recover from great illnesses. In the "old" days, people relied on "Alternative Healing Therapies", known to them as home remedies to heal illnesses. Today, as a culture, we have come to rely so heavily on modern medicine that we often forget how capable are our bodies are of healing all on their own with, a little help from nature.

Lately, people are becoming aware of the damage pharmaceutical overuse can have. Because of this, more people are turning to alternative healing therapies. In nearly every home there seems to be a small pharmacy worth of alternative remedies.

What Are Alternative Healing Therapies?

Alternative Healing Therapies, also called complementary healing therapies, are types of health treatment outside the realm of modern medicine. These range from basic massage to acupuncture and aromatherapy. While the methods used in alternative healing vary greatly, they all follow one basic principle. All types of alternative healing therapies seek to assist the body in healing itself in the least invasive and damaging ways possible.

There are many types of Alternative Therapies. You can easily become certified in some of them such as; massage, aromatherapy, meditation, and acupressure. Others, like acupuncture and holistic dentistry require professional training for which you earn a degree. Most types of alternative healing therapies are improved by use of one or more of the others. This is why you often see massage therapists who also practice acupressure and aromatherapy.

Alternative Healing Therapies are Safe and Natural

Since Alternative Therapies rely mostly on natural methods and ingredients, there is very little risk of side effects or damage to the body. However, as with any outside influences on the body, users of alternative healing therapies should proceed with caution when introducing any new elements into their body.

This means being aware of any potential risks or side effects associated with the herb or product they are using as well as any allergies or sensitivities that they may have. Use herbs, oils, supplements, and other outside influences sparingly. Even the best things can be harmful when used in excess.

Meditation, Massage, and Guided Imagery

It may seem odd to think of something like meditation or massage as a type of therapy. To a culture so dependent on modern medicine the idea of meditation as a form of therapy may seem odd. However, both meditation and guided imagery have been proven time and again to assist the body in healing itself. This is due to the fact that the body is more capable of healing when it is relaxed. The same is true of a positive mindset. Whether it is a broken bone or a serious illness, the human body will always heal faster and more completely if it is happy, well rested, and relaxed.

Herbalism and Natural Therapy

Throughout history, we have used plants to help our bodies heal. This is called herbalism and it is one of the most widely used. Modern medicine was born out of herbalism and many medicines are still created using the properties of plants. Because of this, herbalism is one of the forms of alternative healing therapy that requires the most research and caution. It should be used sparingly and alongside other less invasive forms.

A Better Way To Heal

In the end, most types of Alternative therapies are still safer and less invasive than modern medicine. The human body is an amazing thing, capable of great healing. Sometimes, all it needs is a little help. Often times, alternative therapies can provide just the right amount of help without the dangerous risks and side effects so often found in modern medicine.

Acupuncture To Stop Smoking - Is It An Easy Way To Stop?

Acupuncture to stop smoking is one way that people in western society are trying eastern remedies in order to quit. People who utilize acupuncture as a method to quit smoking are motivated to stop the habit. There are a lot of reasons for deciding to quit smoking. There are people who developed health problems due to smoking like shortness of breath or chronic cough, others just want to avoid the adverse health effects and want to live a healthy life. There are a lot of disease conditions associated with smoking.

Some people just don't want the expense and addiction to tobacco. But for the most part, one has to decide to quit smoking for himself and not for anybody else. Self-motivation is the key. People who make a choice to use acupuncture to stop smoking have a compelling desire to really quit now.

Acupuncture is said to be an effective tool that has assisted a lot of people to beat their addiction with tobacco. Nicotine is one of the most habit-forming drugs known. If this chemical is compounded with the flavor of tobacco smoke and the oral gratification of a cigarette, you get a habit that is very hard to break. But, acupuncture treatment aims to alter the taste of tobacco into an unpleasant experience, which makes smoking cessation less difficult.

Acupuncture treatment also relieves nervousness, agitation, and other signs and symptoms of mental distress. The soothing effect of acupuncture can also make the smoking cessation exposure less distressing. Acupuncture centers on anxiety, cravings, impatience and agitation; all manifestations that people usually complain about when they quit.

The acupuncture needles are very thin. They are lightly inserted into several points in the ears and body to help with smoking cessation. During interval treatments, small pellets are usually fastened to the acupuncture points on the ear. When there are cigarette cravings, the pellets are lightly pressed which activate the acupuncture points to calm the mind and remove the urge.

The duration and frequency of treatments vary from person to person. Usually, acupuncture treatments would last from five to thirty minutes, with the individual being treated once or twice a week. After the needles are taken off, ear press needles/silver pellets are usually placed to excite the points between treatments and decrease the urge to smoke. Some manifestations are alleviated after the first session, while more serious or chronic conditions generally require multiple treatments.

What are the benefits of acupuncture? The treatment doesn't only cure the withdrawal symptom but also improves your overall health. It is obvious that when you quit smoking, your health condition would really improve as an effect.

However, each person reacts differently to this treatment. Hence, the effectiveness also is not uniform for every patient. Some people need at least 10 sessions to achieve long-term benefits. Mild soreness can also be felt in the treatment points after treatment. There are reports of infection and even organ rupture especially if not delivered properly.

The disadvantages of acupuncture treatment make hypnosis therapy a cheaper and easier option for smoking cessation. Hypnosis is non invasive so there's no risk for infection and organ rupture. It is also less costly because it requires lesser sessions compared to acupuncture.
